Comparison

Verbalu vs Miro

Miro is a full visual collaboration platform for teams. The Verbalu whiteboard is simpler and built for training and workshops: participants get in with a code or a QR code, no accounts, and the timer, voting and private mode are already in the free plan. Below are the facts, with their sources and the date we checked them, including where Miro is the better fit.

The Verbalu whiteboard at work

This is a group working on one board. You can set up a real one on a free account and share it with a QR code right away.

Everyone works on the same board at the same time: one person sketches with the marker, another adds a sticky note, and someone else connects the ideas with an arrow. Collaborators’ cursors are visible live, and the laser pointer directs the group’s attention to one spot.

Miro

Miro is a visual collaboration platform for teams: an infinite canvas where documents, tables, timelines, kanban boards and slides sit next to sticky notes and diagrams, with 250+ integrations.1617

Verbalu

Verbalu is a training platform where the whiteboard is one of several dozen tools: a shared canvas with a timer, voting and private mode, next to quizzes, polls, attendance lists, courses and games, and participants join with a code or a QR code, no accounts.

When to choose which

Miro is the better fit when…

  • the board is where your team works every day, not just a tool for a workshop: in Miro, documents, tables, timelines, kanban and slides are created on the same canvas16
  • you want to start from something ready-made: Miro lists 7,000+ templates of its own and from its community10
  • you draw technical diagrams: BPMN, UML or AWS shape packs (on Business, Enterprise and Education), diagrams from Mermaid code, and Visio and Lucidchart import from the Starter plan14
  • your team lives in Jira, Slack, Teams or Zoom and the board has to connect to them: Miro has 250+ apps and integrations17
  • your IT team requires SAML login and security certifications: SAML SSO is on Business and Enterprise, and Miro holds ISO/IEC 27001 and SOC 2 Type II among others2324
  • you want to talk and work in one window, or on a tablet and an interactive display: Miro has video calls on the board (beta, up to 25 people, from the Starter plan) and apps for desktop, phone, tablet and interactive displays820

Verbalu is the better fit when…

  • participants should write on the board straight away, without creating accounts, on a phone too: in Verbalu a link, a code or a QR code is enough. In Miro a person without an account can edit only the boards of teams on paid and Education plans, and a board opened in a phone browser is view-only45
  • you want to run a workshop on the free plan: the timer, dot voting and private mode are on every Verbalu plan, and there is no limit on boards. In Miro those three tools start at the Starter plan, and the Free plan has 3 editable boards63
  • you prefer one price for the team to a fee per person: Verbalu Pro is $12 a month for the whole organization (up to 10 people). In Miro you pay for every team member: $8 (Starter) or $20 (Business) a month, billed yearly21
  • the board is one step of a training session: next to it Verbalu has a quiz, a poll, an attendance list, a certificate and a course, on every plan. In Miro live quizzes and polls (Engage) start at the Business plan9
  • after the workshop you need a document, not a screenshot: Verbalu saves the sticky notes to Word or Excel, grouped by frame, cluster or color, with their vote counts. Miro does not export voting results18
  • you are a trainer or a training company, not a school: Miro excludes training programs, vocational schools, retraining programs and individuals from the free Education plan21

Start alongside, no migration

You don't need to move anything to start.

  1. Keep Miro where it works: project boards, diagrams and your team's integrations stay where they are.

  2. Run your next workshop with people from outside the team on a Verbalu board: participants get in with a code or a QR code, no accounts, on a phone too. Start from a template or ask AI to draw a diagram from a description.

  3. After the workshop, download the sticky notes to Word or Excel, grouped and with their votes. In the same agenda you can add a quiz, a poll or an attendance list.

Questions and answers

Will Verbalu replace Miro?

Not always. If the board is where your team works every day, with documents, tables and slides on one canvas, 250+ integrations and thousands of templates, stay with Miro.161710 Verbalu is enough when the board is part of a training session or a workshop: the group gets in with a code, works with sticky notes and votes, and you guide it with the timer and private mode, with no accounts and no fee per person.

Do participants need an account?

In Miro it depends on the plan. A person without an account can edit a board only when the team is on a paid or Education plan; on the Free plan they can only view it, and to edit they must join the team with a Miro account.4 A board opened in a phone browser is view-only in Miro.5 In Verbalu a participant gets in with a link, a code or a QR code and writes straight away, on a phone and on the free plan too.

What do I get for free?

On Miro's Free plan: 3 editable boards, no limit on people or time, but no timer, voting, private mode, video calls or board history, and export in small size only.3 On Verbalu's free plan: unlimited boards with the timer, voting and private mode, export to PDF, PNG, Word and Excel, every other tool and 50 AI credits to start. The limits are 3 accounts in the organization, 20 MB of files and 30 participants in quiz, poll and game sessions.

What does a year cost for 5 trainers?

In Miro you pay for every team member. Five people on Starter is 5 × $8 a month, or $480 a year, and on Business 5 × $20 a month, or $1,200 a year, paid upfront for the year.21 In Verbalu, Pro is $12 a month for the whole organization of up to 10 people, or $144 a year, paid monthly.

What do Miro and Verbalu offer schools and universities?

Miro grants the free Education plan to staff and students of accredited schools and universities, on application. According to Miro, non-accredited institutions, training programs, vocational schools, retraining programs and individuals do not qualify.21 Verbalu's free plan is the same for every account and needs no application or proof of status: a teacher, a trainer and a training company get the same. For a whole institution there is the separate University plan, quoted individually and invoiced: 100 lecturer accounts, students without a ceiling, 1 TB of files, the university's logo and colors, a compliance pack (data processing agreement, FERPA addendum, HECVAT, accessibility report) and sign-in with university accounts.

Can I move my boards from Miro?

Miro saves boards as JPG, PDF, SVG or CSV.18 Verbalu does not read Miro boards as editable items. You can place an image (JPG) or a PDF from Miro on a Verbalu board and keep working on top of it, and paste a list of ideas in bulk: one line becomes one sticky note.

Where is the data, and what about AI?

Miro stores data in the EU by default on every plan (primary data center in Ireland, backup in Germany); the US, Australia and Japan are available on the Enterprise plan only.22 Miro states that it does not train AI models on customer data; on the Free plan it collects AI interaction data to improve Miro AI until an admin switches that off.13 Verbalu keeps its database (Google Cloud, eur3), files and server functions in the EU. Text is generated by one selected provider (Google Gemini, OpenAI or Anthropic), images and AI search run on Google Gemini and recording transcription on OpenAI; transfers outside the EEA rely on the Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
